What is Cremation Safeguard?
Cremation Safeguard is a system that helps identify and track a deceased individual. It is comprised of a web based system which helps collect, transfer, and store identification information of the deceased for cremation. Cremation Safeguard also uses a fingerprint scanner and a patented locking urn. The fingerprint scanner allows the funeral home and crematory to confirm the deceased’s identity throughout the cremation process. The identification lock allows the funeral home and crematory to continue to confirm the deceased’s identity even after the inurnment.

How does the Cremation Safeguard fingerprinting work?
Fingerprints are a unique identifying mark of every individual. Cremation Safeguard takes advantage of this unique feature by allowing the family to identify their loved one and witness the fingerprint process. The fingerprint is taken electronically and is stored on a secure data base. The fingerprint is transferred to the crematory, so when the deceased is transferred to the crematory, the crematory can positively identify the deceased via fingerprint and video documentation.

What makes Cremation Safeguard different?
Cremation Safeguard does something that has never been done before. Cremation Safeguard creates a chain of custody for the deceased for the entire cremation process; from the moment the body is taken into custody until the family receives the cremated remains. Cremation Safeguard forces the funeral home to properly ID the deceased. Unfortunately, not all funeral homes ID a deceased prior to cremation. Cremation Safeguard requires the family to witness the fingerprinting of the deceased which ensures that the deceased is properly identified. What is the Cremation Safeguard lock?
Cremation Safeguard has developed the very first identifiable locking urn. Until now, urns were either labeled with a sticker, or perhaps an ID tag from the crematory. The l Cremation Safeguard locking urn, including its temporary urn, has a unique cable lock. The cable lock is imprinted with the unique Cremation Safeguard ID number of the deceased. This enables the urn to be identified at any time. Also, the Cremation Safeguard lock can only be removed by cutting it. This prevents any tampering of the contents by the crematory; the funeral home; or the family.

Can I transfer cremated remains from a Cremation Safeguard urn?
Yes. The Cremation Safeguard urn can be opened by cutting the lock. However, this should be done in the presence and agreement of the family. Again, this will ensure the chain of custody is always protected and documented.
