How does Cremation Safeguard work?
There are 7 steps in the Cremation Safeguard process - Starting and Ending with Identification.

1) Statistics - The funeral home gathers all relevant statistical information in order to complete the Cremation Authorization and Disposition Form. All information is collected electronically including signatures. At this time, the deceased is also automatically assigned a unique Cremation Safeguard identification number.

2) Identification by the Family - The family identifies the deceased and witnesses the fingerprinting of the deceased.

3) Transfer Information - The information, all collected electronically, is transferred via a secure web connection, to the crematory. The crematory is notified of the pending cremation.

4) Identification at Crematory - The deceased is taken to the crematory for the cremation process. Upon arrival to the crematory, the crematory re-fingerprints the deceased thus verifying the identity of the deceased. The funeral home representative witnesses the fingerprinting and signs off electronically. The deceased is given a tag and lock with the Cremation Safeguard identification number.

5) Cremation - The crematory cremates the deceased. The crematory has cameras mounted in its facility which are tied to the Cremation Safeguard system. The cameras automatically record certain portions of the process to document and verify the identity of the deceased throughout the cremation process. After the cremation, the crematory places the cremated remains into a Cremation Safeguard locking urn which includes the deceased’s unique Cremation Safeguard tracking number.

6) Delivery to Funeral Home - After the cremated remains are ready, the funeral home is notified. The funeral home is presented with the urn holding the deceased’s cremated remains. The funeral home verifies the urn’s Cremation Safeguard identification number on the locking mechanism, ensuring the identity of the deceased.

7) Identification by Family - The family is asked to identify the deceased this time using the urn and the Cremation Safeguard identification number originally appointed, which is located on the locking mechanism. The family signs an electronic receipt which acknowledges the receipt and delivery of the cremated remains to the proper individual.
